The landmark agreement establishes global standards for digital asset oversight, stablecoin reserves, and cross-border crypto transactions.
Finance ministers from the Group of Seven nations have unanimously adopted a comprehensive framework for cryptocurrency regulation, establishing the first globally coordinated approach to digital asset oversight.
Key Provisions
- Stablecoin issuers must maintain 1:1 reserve backing
- Mandatory know-your-customer requirements for exchanges
- Cross-border transaction reporting standards
- Consumer protection requirements for retail investors
Industry Response
Major cryptocurrency exchanges welcomed the regulatory clarity, saying the framework would legitimize the industry and attract institutional investment.
Critics, however, argued the regulations could stifle innovation and drive smaller companies out of the market.
Implementation Timeline
Member nations have 18 months to incorporate the framework into domestic law. The agreement includes provisions for mutual recognition of regulatory standards between member countries.
